Natural Stress Relief From Food

Written By: jennifer - Nov• 23•11

natural stress relief foodsIn times of stress, food becomes the automatic go-to source for natural stress relief for many. Indeed, certain foods induce a calm and relaxed state as well as a greater sense of personal control during stressful situations. It seems that when stress levels rise, the willpower to avoid comfort foods falls by the wayside. In short, eating can make us feel good when we’re feeling bad! It’s no surprise our body tells to us to go for the mac n’ cheese and bread and sweets, etc. as remedies for stress.

Traditional comfort foods can be useful for managing stress to a degree as long as they’re eaten in moderation. However, when eaten too often or in indulgent amounts, these nutritionally deficient foods can actually exacerbate the effect of stress on the body. Good nutrition is a much better (and of course, healthier) way to combat stress. When the body and mind are fed correctly, you’re much more resilient to the daily challenges of life. (more…)

Stress Toys: Natural Stress Relievers in the Palm of Your Hand

Written By: jennifer - Nov• 13•11

Stress toys are effective natural stress relievers if used properly. As a chronically stressed out individual, I had summarily dismissed stress toys without having even tried them because they seemed…lame. I got over my resistance and have to say now that stress toys are awesome stress reducers in the moment. I like this article because it offers concrete advantages of using stress toys for managing stress. There are positive physiological effects from squeezing a stress ball that I never would have guessed! Read on as you consider pulling out that old nerf ball.

When was the last time someone complimented you on your good looks and youthful charm? If you cannot remember it in twenty seconds, then you certainly need to re-evaluate your life.

Stress silently creeps in our lives and dwells with us quietly forever. They have a way of triggering the balanced state of mind and are known to play havoc with our nervous system and metabolism. The heart and the blood pressure rate swing like a yo-yo if stress wants to play truant.

Some of us manage to use them effectively for a day or so but then it becomes impossible to stick to them as the work pressure is too intense to handle. At times, such as this, stress toys are known to help out.

There are several varieties of anti stress toys available in the market in the form of smiley stress balls, sponges and other shaped objects that can be squeezed tightly in our palms. When the stress toy is squeezed it reduces the muscular and emotional tension. Customized stress balls can be made to order so that they fit correctly into the size of your palm.

Natural Stress Relief Through Aromatherapy

Written By: jennifer - Nov• 07•11

Among the many natural stress relief methods I recommend, aromatherapy has got to be one of the easiest and most pleasant to use. It’s all about using essential oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots and other plant parts for improved mental and physical health. These essential oils can be absorbed through the skin although I suggest inhaling their aromas to promote quick mood enhancement and natural stress relief.

Many studies have shown that aromatherapy may bring relief to those suffering from stress. Let me explain how in simple laymen terms. When you inhale essential oils, their scent links directly with the limbic system in the brain through the olfactory nerve. This triggers the production and release of neurotransmitters that relax the central nervous system and reduce stress naturally.

Aromatherapy is a passive form of natural stress relief with few if any side effects. It’s convenient because you can reduce stress as you go by inhaling an aromatherapeutic scent while doing something else. It’s also complementary to other natural stress relievers like massage and meditation. Stress relief doesn’t get much easier than this! That’s why aromatherapy is one of my favorite stress remedies.

There are a wide number of essential oils available for effective stress management, each with its own therapeutic value. Here are some of the most popular: (more…)

Natural Stress Relief: Sweating Stress Away with Exercise

Written By: jennifer - Oct• 31•11

While exercise has been popularized in recent years for its numerous physical health benefits, it also deserves recognition as a powerful natural stress relief method. Activities like walking, aerobics, bicycling, swimming, weight-lifting exercises and even yoga can all be helpful in the fight against stress. Indeed…

natural stress relief exerciseExercise is a great natural stress reliever for a variety of reasons

It’s a Distraction

Exercise can take your focus off of the issues that may be triggering worry and stress for you. Instead, your attention may settle singularly on the physical activity at hand. You may even enter into a peaceful state otherwise known as “the zone”. Getting away from your normal stress charged environment by going to the gym or the great outdoors may also enhance exercise’s stress relieving benefits.

It Tempers Frustration

Let’s face facts – life for most of us can be frustrating with its frequent annoyances and disappointments. Negative feelings and stress are natural by-products of the frustration. However, channeling your energy into vigorous activities like martial arts, wind sprints, strength training and boxing can help release these negative emotions. Sweating during physical workouts clears away mental and emotional problems by stimulating the brain to think of solutions to such problems. Moreover, you’ll decrease cortisol (the stress hormone) and release endorphins which elevate mood and increase one’s emotional resilience. The “runner’s high” is a very real experience. Exercise is much healthier for you than using food, alcohol or tobacco for natural stress relief.

It Helps You Look and Feel Your Best

Exercise may also help your physical appearance and mental health. It tones the body, promotes clear and younger skin, eliminates toxins that cause illnesses, fatigue and aging, improves posture, and enhances self-esteem. You may even lose weight and increase muscle tone. When people exercise regularly, they tend to feel better about their appearance and themselves in general which is an important part of effective natural stress relief.

It’s Social

Exercise is a great opportunity to satisfy our primal need for social interaction. You can work out with a partner or on the running trail or join a group sport where you’ll meet and interact with lots of people on a regular basis. Even the gym is a valuable venue for interacting with people with similar fitness goals. Make a difference for yourself and others by participating in a charitable sports event like a community fun run for breast cancer awareness. Using exercise as a social outlet is an awesome way to achieve natural stress relief.

Exercise is one of the most important natural stress relievers available because it’s great for both body and mind. It doesn’t have to cost anything and it doesn’t have to take much time. Just find an activity that you like and can incorporate into your life on a regular basis and notice how much better you deal with life. Exercise is a natural stress relief superstar!
